Pre-Fast Instructions

Preparing for a fast is just as important as the juice fast itself.  There will not be any benefit to juice fasting if you don't prepare for it, and there might actually be damaging effects on the body.  So, if you are going to take the time and effort to put yourself into this process, you will need to educate yourself about doing it safely and enjoyably as well.  I recommend the following:   

1-Five or six days before beginning on the juice fast, try to eat only organic raw fruits and vegetables and begin drinking fresh extracted fruit and vegetable juices.  This limited regime will begin to assist your body and your mind in winding down certain addictions and bad habits.  To go from regular cooked foods and some junk foods into juicing can be very dangerous.  Your body could detox too quickly and you can get very uncomfortable and ill.

2-Clean out your kitchen.  Clean the refrigerator and set up your juicer close to the sink.

3-Take hot baths, do some yoga, oil your body and begin to think about the process of detoxification.  Go to bed early.

4-Read about juice fasting on this website.

5-Ask for spiritual guidance to give you the courage and confidence you will need to truly do your best.

6-Don't talk to many people about your plans.  Some folks, who don't understand the need for regular cleansing might even try to discourage you.

7-Keep yourself in a calm state of mind by doing yoga and meditation.

8-Get outside to exercise, even if it's just walking briskly. 

9-Get yourself as organized as possible, so that when you are doing the fast, your mind will be free and clear of all the things you think you have to do.

10-Buy some natural body soaps and shampoos and bring some of these with you. 

11-Be aware of chemicals in your environment and replace with a healthier alternative.

12-Look at yourself naked in the mirror and be honest with yourself....what would you make you feel better about yourself....and believe that you can change.

13-During the week before your fast get lots of sleep, stay clear of the news in papers and on TV, read spiritually motivating books, spend less time on the phone at home and enjoy your quiet time.
